Hank Aaron is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He finished his career with 3,771 hits and 755 home runs. After passing Babe Ruth's home run record of 714 in 1974, he held the record for 33 years until Barry Bonds hit his 756th in 2007. Among his numerous MLB records and achievements, Aaron holds the record for runs batted in with 2,297. Aaron was a 25-time All-Star, 4-time NL home run champion and a 3-time Gold Glove Award winner. His jersey number 44 has been retired by the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers. In 1982, Hank Aaron was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
Eddie Mathews, considered to be one of the greatest third baseman to ever play the game, was a 12-time All-Star, 2-time World Series Champion (with the Braves and Tigers), and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978. During his career, he collected over 500 home runs, over 1,400 RBI and over 2,300 hits. Mathews passed away in 2001 at the age of 69. Later that year, the Braves wore patches with his retired jersey #41 to honor his memory.
