Pete Whisenant (dec. 1996) was an outfielder for several teams including the Braves, Cardinals, Cubs, Reds, Indians and Senators in the 1950's and early 60's. Whisenant is believed to be the only player to appear in a box score for a team for which he did not play. During the 7th inning of a game in 1960, when he had already been traded from the Indians to the Senators, he was announced as a pinch hitter for the Indians. However, just minutes earlier, the Indians notified the AL office that Whisenant had been traded for Ken Aspromonte, and the news had not yet reached Cleveland manager Joe Gordon when he sent Whisenant into the game to bat. But with a pitcher change from a left-handed to a right-handed, Whisenant was called back to the bench without hitting, to be replaced by Tito Francona. Offered here is a rare single-signed Rawlings official National League (Coleman) baseball hand signed by Pete Whisenant, which has been authenticated by PSA/DNA.
