After his four-year minor league career ended due to a knee injury, Mike Illitch left baseball to open a Little Caesars Pizza. After founding a successful pizza franchise, Illitch bought the Detroit Red Wings in 1982, where he helped lead the organization to becoming an elite NHL team. In 1992, he purchased the struggling Detroit Tigers from the founder of Domino’s Pizza. He moved the team to Comerica Park in 2000, financing approximately 60% of the $350 million facility, and the Tigers eventually started to turn things around a few years later. He was also part of signing Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander. Aside from his business ventures, Illitch was also a philanthropist. He established many programs to help the hungry, veterans, children and more. After Rosa Parks was attacked while at home in her Detroit apartment in 1994, he paid her rent to enable her to live in a safer part of Detroit. Illitch passed away in 2017 at the age of 87. The autograph includes authentication from PSA/DNA.
