During the 1948 season, Johnny Blatnik was the star left fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, and led the NL in outfielders in assists with 9. He began the 1950 season with the Phillies “Whiz Kids”, but was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals. Blatnik passed away in 2004 at the age of 82.
