Emory "Bubba" Church was a pitcher in the Major Leagues from 1950 to 1955, playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. He was a key member of the 1950s Phillies "Whiz Kids"in their fight for the pennant. Although he didn't play in the World Series after the regular season, he finished the season at 8–6 with an ERA of 2.73 and two shutouts over 142 innings. Church passed away in 2001 at the age of 77.
