Carl Mays won over 200 games in the Major Leagues, including 27 in 1921 alone, but he is primarily remembered for throwing the pitch that killed Cleveland Indians Ray Chapman in 1920. Chapman became the only Major League player to die as a direct result of an on-field injury. Chapman had won 4 World Championships with the Red Sox and Yankees, and has the statistics to be in the Hall of Fame, but he lives in infamy as the result of 1 fatal pitch.
